Episode No. 7! đ„· This time about:
Done isnât always better than perfect
4 things I liked on the interwebs
Handpicked local design opportunities
Reading time: 2 minutes 40 seconds
I saw Will Smith on David Letterman through the weekend. Although the Oscar fiasco has made it difficult to watch him do stuff, I gave it a few minutes.
Smith mentions his dad emphasizing:
99% is the same as 0%.
Stuck with me. Objectively false, yet delivers the message well.
If you start a thing, finish it. If you do anything, do it well.
Then I remembered Quincy Jonesâ dad repeating the same message to his kids:
Once a task has just begun
do not leave it till itâs done.
Be the labor great or small
do it well or not at all.
There. Parenting complete. â
Everyone can start a project. A few can finish, deliver and delight.
When the launch date is approaching and the excitement has faded â thatâs when character and discipline manifest themselves.
Done is (sometimes) better than perfect
Shipping is important. But not shipping trash is also important.
Velocity without intention leads to waste at best and damage at worst.
How do we then find the balance between volume and excellence?

Stuff I liked
1.
Itâs definitely easier to act than ask great questions.
2.
đ€Ą
3.
How to craft a narrative. Good for any speech.
4. Bratislava & regional design jobs đ»
I posted these jobs a while ago and I think these are great opportunities. Happy to connect or give a reference.
Deepnote is hiring product designers
Deepnote is a wonderful group of people building a âFigma for data scientistsâ backed by some of the big names of Silicon Valley and doing some good progress with the product. You guys with solid background and experience to go big with this one. What a great opportunity to get involved.
Kiwi is hiring product designers
Kiwi, like Productboard, has one, maybe the most mature design organization in the CEE. I personally know multiple people on the team and I am confident that this team is a good one.
Parrot is hiring a product designer/lead
Parrot is a legal tech startup based out of NYC with people in Prague and Bratislava. Major traction achieved in the past 12 months, theyâre on track to build a strong SaaS supergrowth company. Hiring product designer no. 1 at the moment. Wonderful opportunity.
Productboard is hiring multiple product designers
Series D scale-up with one of the most mature design organizations in the CEE. Many great opportunities at Productboard.
Swiss Re is hiring a UI engineer and a plethora (always wanted to use that word) of technical roles in Bratislava. Hit me up for a referral if you find something.
Vestberry is hiring a designer
Vestberry is a startup close to my heart, as two of my best friends are the co-founders of this enterprise. I believe itâs a solid SaaS business in a good vertical and I hope they can go to distance.
Wrike is hiring product designers
Wrike, recently acquired by Citrix, has some great design talent on board and I think itâs a great opportunity. They recently posted a job in Bratislava that seems like a great opportunity.
